UPSC OTR Registration 2026: How to Complete the OTR Process for UPSC Exam

📌 What is UPSC OTR (One-Time Registration)?

🔹 One-Time Registration (OTR) was the system used by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for candidates to create a profile once and then use that to apply for various UPSC examinations like CSE (IAS/IPS), IFS, NDA, CDS, IES, CMS, AFCAT, etc.

🔹 However, the old UPSC OTR system has been discontinued as part of a wider overhaul of the application platform. All aspirants are now required to complete a new registration on the updated UPSC online application portal even if they had an existing OTR profile earlier.

🧾 Why You Must Register (Even If You Registered Earlier)

🔹 The old OTR system has been fully replaced by UPSC’s new four-part registration structure.
🔹 Old OTR IDs do not work on the new portal — you must register again on upsconline.nic.in to apply for UPSC CSE 2026 and other exams.

🪪 Steps to Complete the New Registration (Upgraded OTR)

Here’s how to register and be eligible to apply for UPSC 2026 exams:

1. Account Creation

  1. Visit https://upsconline.nic.in
  2. Click “Sign Up” or “New Registration”
  3. Enter details like:
    • Full name
    • Valid email address
    • Mobile number (used for OTP verification)
    • Create a password
    • Confirm the password

➡️ An OTP will be sent to your mobile/email — verify both. (Important for future login & forms)

2. Universal Registration

✔ Fill in your personal details that will remain constant across exams:

  • Date of birth
  • Parent/guardian details
  • Address
  • Educational qualifications (as asked)
  • Identity details (Aadhaar/other ID)

➡️ This section collects general data that stays the same for all UPSC applications.

3. Common Application Form

📝 This is where you provide:

  • Educational details
  • Exam preferences (if known)
  • Photo and signature upload
  • Other required documents

➡️ You don’t need to fill this fully for every exam again; universal fields auto-fill.

4. Examination Registration

📌 After registering and filling the universal fields, go to “Examination” section and:

  1. Select the UPSC exam you want to apply for (e.g., CSE 2026)
  2. Complete any exam-specific details
  3. Upload documents and photos as required
  4. Submit the application
  5. Pay fees (if applicable)

➡️ Final submission must be done within the exam notification window (e.g., for CSE 2026 applications were open until Feb 24, 2026).

📎 Key Tips & Reminders

👉 Old OTR IDs won’t work on the updated portal — register from scratch on upsconline.nic.in.
👉 Always use a valid email & mobile — this becomes your login & OTP channel.
👉 Upload a clear photo & signature as per UPSC format requirements.
👉 Review all fields carefully — some are used for eligibility and future applications.
👉 Keep a print/pdf copy of your filled application for records.

🆘 Common Issues You Might Face

💡 OTP or email not received: Often due to network problems or spam filters.
📌 Login issues with old credentials: Because the portal is new, old login info may not work.
☎️ UPSC Help: If stuck, contact UPSC support — their email/helpline is listed on the official site.
